Old Business:

The new library sign is now in place. A sign for the front of the library is being planned. "Friends of the Library" was organized a year ago to support the library, including fundraising for it. More space (8,000 sq. ft.) is needed for Fairdale's library and is being sought.

The Fairdale Neighborhood Youth Board is still seeking space in the police department's Community Relations building. David proposes moving maintenance supplies to the Community Relations building garage so other items can be stored in the Playtorium's storage areas. Ron will ask about this.

The Village Beautification Plan has been approved by the state - $70,000-$80,000 - includes trees being planted along Mt. Holly, Manslick, Mitchell Hill; curbs are to be put in, as is an official welcome sign, all to soften the look of Fairdale's business district.

The Fairdale Village Task Force is to meet May 26 at 4:00 p.m. at the Fire Department to continue refining the plan.

New Business:

Steve met with Billy Elder to determine how best to finance the enclosing of drainage along W. Manslick Rd. and Mt Holly. State money is needed in this project. Denise Bentley (now liaison to the Governor) is working with Ron to pave Mt. Holly from Fairdale Rd. to Coral Ridge. Drainage boxes along Mt. Holly are being installed. Ron is looking into the possibility of having grants fund these projects.

Council members Weston, Flood, Blackwell, and Henderson helped sponsor Forest Festival on May 21 at Horine to bring people and attention to Jefferson Memorial Forest. A Citizens Task Force will be formed to work on this event for next year. Area principals will be invited to take part on this task force.

Jude Apartments, designed to provide assisted living for the disabled, is now officially open.

TARC service to Fairdale throughout the day is now being pursued.

David brought a map he had printed that shows the distribution of mobile home parks and apartment complexes throughout the 26 metro council districts. This can serve as an aid to those who approve housing development proposals.

Dorothy reports that Watsonville is to become a neighborhood association.

Linda reports that Yorktown North Maintenance Association has contacted Fairdale High School's Heavy Highway Program about constructing a walking track around Yorktown Lake located beside National Turnpike.

Ron reports that the smoking ban issue will probably be decided this summer by Louisville Metro Council.

Adjourned: 5:15 p.m.
Next meeting: June 21 - 4:00 p.m. - library
