On April 19, 2001 Mr. Jeffrey A. DeLisle of the International Association of Fire Fighters AFL-CIO came to town to tell our County Commissioners the bad news. His association told the county that there is no fire service here in Monroe County. That we are operating under a smoke & mirrors system. Maybe the County Commissioners are starting to listen. We need to hire on professional fire captain from outside the county to assume full control of all of Monroe County's fire protection. Then the County Commission needs to staff each station with paid professional fire fighters on duty 24/7, backed up by the volunteers. Until each fire station is manned by this system, people's lives are in danger.
