On Saturday April 21, 2001 Monroe County & Waste Management came together to remove approximately 16 truck loads of trash from Stock Island. Many thanks to Greg Sullivan of Waste Management. Dent Pierce of Public Works. Jose & Brian & their inmate crew who did a great job in getting the trash out from the area past the barrier at 5th St. & 12th Ave. Brian Carmen from The City of Key West Task Force. Commissioner Dixie Spehar for her support. Pepsi Cola for their donations of drinks. Mike Jolly of Jolly's Liquors for his donations of ice & water. Deputy Emil LaVache for his support and photos. The 7 members of the Stock Island Home Owners & Business Association who showed up & helped direct the trucks to the targeted areas. If we could get more residents to turn out to help the County & Waste Management will respond with more equipment. But until the whole community sees the value of this event I alone will not be able to carry the football all by myself at every game.
