Highway 281 Expansion

o The Texas Department of Transportation is in the early stages of altering and expanding U.S. Hwy 281 from Loop 1604 to FM 306 in Comal County.

Near Term Plans:
o Improve interchanges on Hwy 281 at Redland Road, Stone Oak Parkway, and Borgfield Road. (Funded)
o Median crossovers closed
o Flashing beacons installed to alert drivers to adjust their speed as they approach intersections
o Traffic signals installed at Stone Oak Parkway, Bulverde Road, Borgfield Road

Long Term Plans (2001 - 2016)
o Construct interchanges with exit and entrance ramps in 1-mile intervals
o Expand Hwy 281 to FM 306 (est. $358 million)

DOT has conducted two public meetings on the Hwy 281 expansion, and plans to conduct additional ones in the summer, 2002, and in the spring and fall, 2003.
