STONECREEK NEWS
A MONTHLY NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSLETTER SEPTEMBER 1999
------------------------------------------------------------
DIRECTOR'S CORNER:
THE TRAFFIC ON JUNIPER
Gary Thomas has not completed his traffic study. The Board of Directors will write a letter to the Town of Gilbert formally requesting that stop signs be installed at the intersection of Juniper and Stonecreek.
NEW POOL/ TENNIS COURT KEYS
We plan to rekey the two tennis court and the three pool keys on October 15, 1999. Only homeowners who are current
with the Association (dues, fines etc. ) will be issued new keys. The specific procedure that we will follow is found later in this newsletter. The contract to purchase the keys and to rekey the locks was awarded to Hicks Safe and Lock.
HOA WEB PAGE
The Board of Directors has started its WEB page. It is in the final stages. The URL is:
WWW.NEIGHBORHOODLINK.COM/STONECREEK (all lowercase letters.). If you have any thoughts on what you
would like to see on the Web Page, there is a place on the Web page to add your comments. The fine schedule should be
there by the time you read this. The ACC form is being revised, so it is not being put on at this time. The page currently has:
* A picture from the Arizona Republic of Stonecreek's grand opening in 1987,
* Borg Property Services phone #, mailing address & E-mail Address,
* Pacific Landscape phone #,
* Volunteer committee E-mail address and phone #,
* Town of Gilbert Code Enforcement phone #,
* A form by which homeowners can FAX Nancy (Borg Property Services) or the newsletter committee,
*Selected FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) from the Town of Gilbert.
* plus other useful (we hope) information.
ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL COMMITTEE ACTIVITY (ACC) REPORT

Remember to call George, Frank, or Borg Property Services on all ACC issues.
The committee processed the following requests:
RECEIVED: - 4 APPROVED: - 1
DENIED: - 0 PENDING - 3
Please remember: Your CC&R's require that you have ACC approval before starting any projects that will change the
appearance of your home or yard. You can get ACC forms by calling:
(1) Frank at 926-4412 (Stonecreek Resident),
(2) George at 926-3619 (Stonecreek Resident) or

Please respect Sharon, Frank and George as fellow homeowners and contact them only between the hours of 10am-8pm, Monday-Friday. Leave a message if you get their answering machine.
VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE REPORT
Remember to call Sharon Howes if you want information on a committee or want to join a committee (480-497-8124).
Sharon will then handle the communications between the Board of Directors, the homeowners and Borg Property Services. A number of names have been turned over to Sharon and as a result, 1 homeowner has joined the ACC committee and 3 homeowners have been referred to the Landscape Committee. Thank you for contributing your time.
WORK RECENTLY DONE TO THE COMMON AREAS:
Arbor Care trimmed and/or removed 48 trees throughout the common areas.
Pacific Landscape will Hydro-seed the high profile areas in need of grass - the playground, pool area etc. by the end of August.
The Wrought Iron Fence Project is complete except for two issues. It was a huge project and the Board of Directors thanks Borg Property Services, the homeowners involved and the contractors (American Fence Co. and Painting by Danny S.
White.) who contributed to its success. A job well done by all!
CONTRACTS AWARDED/UPCOMING
none
VANDALISM
This was another bad month for vandalism, but not as bad as the past two months.
Remove human feces from the pool $83.00.
Pacific landscape had to replace 25 sprinkler heads and related items this month.
($589.54 = $1.21/lot)
A Power of Attorney has been executed and delivered to the Town of Gilbert Police Department. This will enable the Gilbert Police Department to arrest anyone caught vandalizing at the pool area.
Adding chemicals to the pool water is considered vandalism by the Board of Directors and is therefore subject to arrest.
CRIME REPORT
The Board of Directors has obtained two reports from the Town of Gilbert Police Department. One report is of crimes
reported in Stonecreek and the other is a report of crimes reported in Freestone Park. Each report covers 8/1/98-8/1/99. A copy of either (or both) of these reports may be obtained by calling Borg Property Services. Since the reports are quite long, there will be a $5.00 charge per report to cover printing and postage.
GET INVOLVED:
It's getting to be PAINT PARTY Time again. The Board of Directors would like to have another paint party, possibly in November. If you are interested in helping the HOA paint a section of block fence, contact the Volunteer Committee for information. The last party took place on a Saturday morning. All supplies, food and pop were supplied by the HOA.
The Board of Directors would like to have a logo and would like to make it from the water feature. If there is a photographer who would like to help design and take the picture, they should contact Borg Property Services.
Join the Landscape Committee and get some exercise while you are helping to keep your Association property values high. They hold a short monthly meeting and walk an area other than their own once a month (usually the first week of each month).
We also need help on the ACC committee. Like the Landscape committee, they generally meet once a month to act upon
the ACC requests submitted.
You may contact the new Volunteer Committee for further information on a committee or for joining a committee.

that this is a serious violation of the Association rules. The fine for the first offense is $25.00.

DID YA KNOW?
That CITIZENSHIP DAY was established by Congress in 1952 to give public recognition to all who became American citizens
in the preceding year? It replaced I Am an American Day and Constitution Day.
That on September 5, 1991 the Soviet Union changed forever when the Congress of People's Deputies dissolved itself. A
transitional state council was set up to decide the future of the country. Mikhail Gorbachev led the council.
That "...The first authorized U.S. airmail was flown between Garden City and Mineola, New York, in September 1911...The first regular airmail route in the U.S. was established between New York City and Washington, D.C., in 1918. Transcontinental service, between New York City and San Francisco, began in 1921; the scheduled flying time varied from 29 to 33 hours, but the planes flew only during the daytime. Day-and-night service over the same route was established in 1924..."(1)

BLACK FRIDAY
"Black Friday is a name applied to a short-lived financial crisis in the United States that occurred on Friday, September 24, 1869. The panic was precipitated when two financial speculators, James Fisk and Jay Gould, attempted to corner the U.S. gold market. On September 20 they began purchasing gold in New York City; by September 24 they controlled enough of the available supply in the city to bid up the price from about 140 to 163. This rapid increase in the price of gold threw the stock exchange into confusion, and the prices of commodities fluctuated wildly. The inflationary run on gold was halted toward the
close of the business day when U.S. Secretary of the Treasury George Sewall Boutwell announced that the federal
government had made $4 million of its gold reserves available for trading. Fisk and Gould probably made a profit of about $11 million by their manipulations, but many businesspeople claimed to have been ruined by the panic.
"The name Black Friday has occasionally been applied also to the Friday of September 19, 1873, when the New York Stock
Exchange suffered a major financial crash that ushered in the panic of 1873."(2)

LEWIS AND CLARK EXPEDITION
"...Meriwether Lewis and William Clark led an expedition to explore the region from the Mississippi River to the Pacific
Ocean...beginning in May 1804 and ending in September 1806. The expedition was commissioned by President Thomas
Jefferson and led by army officers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark. The exploration covered a total of about 13,000 km (about 8000 mi), from a camp outside St. Louis to the Pacific Ocean and back. Like other scholars in his time, Jefferson believed in the existence of a Northwest Passage, or some kind of water connection between the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. The principal goal of the expedition was to locate such a route and survey its potential as a waterway for American westward
expansion. Although Lewis and Clark did not find this route, the expedition succeeded in making peaceful contact with Native Americans and uncovering a wealth of knowledge about the peoples, geography, plants, and animals of the western United States."(4)

MONTHLY MAINTENANCE TIP:
BUG OUT
"APHIDS AND WHITE FLIES
These bugs are attracted to bright yellow and can be trapped by placing a yellow board or other yellow objects such as yellow poster board, oleo lids, or sticks painted yellow, coated with heavy motor oil, petroleum jelly or Tack Trap?® near susceptible plants. Re-coat when the traps dry out.
"APHIDS ON ROSES
Use 1 ?½ teaspoons of baking soda per pint of water and apply every seven days. This method is user-, earth- and child-friendly.
"GRASSHOPPERS
To deter grasshoppers, plant basil around the flower bed borders. Grasshoppers will eat the basil and leave the plants alone.
"ANTS
For ants on the counter, wipe the counter down with undiluted white vinegar.
"To prevent ants from coming in the house, or getting into cupboards, sprinkle dried mint or red pepper where they are
entering the house and in the cupboards.
"To get rid of ant hills, pour 3 gallons of boiling water down them. This is best done when the ants are active and near the surface. Do not do this close to flowers or they will die too....
"COCKROACHES
To keep cockroaches out of the cupboards, place some bay leaves on the shelves...." (5)

SELLING YOUR HOME?
Please help yourself by telling your title company that a sale is pending and that they must notify Borg Property Services of the pending sale. Borg Property Services has seven (7) days to inspect your house before the sale can be completed. (House bill 2299) If the inspection must be done in less than seven (7) days because Borg Property Services was not notified, then we will charge the homeowner an extra fee. Title companies have been known to ask for a rush inspection because they did not notify Borg Property Services, and the homeowner is the one charged the extra fee.
