DIRECTOR?’S CORNER
Stonecreek HOA shares the same concern as all residents in Arizona about West Nile Virus. West Nile Virus has been reported to be in Gilbert. Since April of this year, T2 Pest Control has sprayed standing water every three weeks. This is the latest treatment to prevent mosquitos. The cost to the Association for this preventive measure is $250.00. Our landscape company has also been working very hard to avoid standing water in the common area. The sprinklers are checked weekly. If you notice that sprinklers seem to be running too long, please contact Borg Property Services at 480-456-6927 or Aztec Landscape Maintenance at 602-770-6324. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) web site is www.westnilevirus.com and they have a West Nile Virus Q & A section that explains the symptoms of West Nile Virus and other information.

School is about to begin, and we would like to remind all residents of Stonecreek HOA to please obey the traffic rules posted in the community. The Board of Director's has raised the concern of speeders numerous times in the past to the Town of Gilbert Traffic Division. Unfortunately, our requests to assist Stonecreek with the speeding situation have fallen upon deaf ears. Please do your part to make Stonecreek a safe place for all pedestrians and bike riders, by obeying the speed limit. Also, please use extra care when approaching the intersection of Stonecreek Blvd. and Juniper. This is a major crossing area for children on their way to/from Patterson Elementary School.

CONTRACTS AWARDED
1. Tree Doctors - Remove, trim and clean various trees throughout the community.
NEW SPEEDING FINES IN GILBERT
Speeding 10-20 miles over the posted speed limit used to carry a fine of $180.00 in the Town of Gilbert. That was last month!

Now it carries a fine of $225.00.

SAFETY TIPS TO BEAT SUMMER HEAT
With summer in full swing, it is important to take a few minutes and think about keeping cool when daily temperatures surge into the triple digits. While Arizona summers may take new residents by surprise, longtime residents will find themselves wanting to keep safe and cool during hot summer days. Remember to drink plenty of water when spending time outdoors, whether the activity is mowing the lawn or spending a day at Freestone Park. A wide brimmed hat will protect the face from direct sunlight, but a sun screen will protect the rest of the body from sunburn. However, the dangers of summer heat will extend beyond a sunburn. In extreme cases, heat exhaustion can occur, with symptoms including heavy sweating, fatigue, weakness, muscle cramps, thirst, nausea and cold, pale skin. To treat heat exhaustion, place the person in a cool place and apply a wet cloth. Fan them and give sips of lightly salted water.

?“If untreated, heat exhaustion can lead to heat stroke which carries even greater risks. Heat stroke occurs when the body is incapable of controlling its own temperatures and cannot cool down. The body?’s sweating mechanism fails and body temperatures can reach 106 degrees F. The skin becomes hot and dry and the body is no longer sweating. Victims will have difficulty breathing, rapid pulse dizziness, confusion and even seizures. If this happens, call 9-1-1 immediately. Cool the person off with a cold bath or fan, but do not give fluids.

?“Although many people choose to remain indoors during the warmest parts of the day, it is still possible to participate in outdoor activities safely if simple safety precautions are taken and people do not attempt to over-exert themselves. The primary tip is to remember to keep fully hydrated and to seek shade at the first signs of discomfort. Enjoy the summer. For more information, call 480-503-6500.?”
