STONECREEK NEWS
A MONTHLY NEIGHBORHOOD NEWSLETTER October 2000
welcome new members of the Board of Directors!
DIRECTOR?’S CORNER:
We filled the two vacant positions on the Board of Directors by appointing Jack Maas and Judy Morgan. We welcome them to their positions and wish them well. They attended their first board meeting in October. Your Board of Directors now consists of:
President - Sean Callahan
Vice President - Jeff D?’Aurora
Secretary - Judy Morgan
Treasurer - Jack Maas
Member at Large - Sandra Lescoe
We began evaluating the proposed 2001 budget. A preliminary budget was distributed to the Board at our September meeting and will be discussed by the Board members at our October meeting.
We met with The Town of Gilbert about the condition of the sidewalks. As a result, they will be repairing all the sidewalks adjacent to the street throughout the common as within the next six weeks.
We ordered and received new letterheads with the new Stonecreek logo. We will begin using them as our current supply runs out. It also appears in the masthead of this newsletter and on our web page.
The rats found at the water feature have been exterminated. (Please do not leave food at any common area.)
The trees at the water feature have been trimmed to keep the water feature looking nicer.
As usual, the entrance to Freestone Park will be limited to foot traffic only beginning at 4:30 p.m. to allow for the 16th Annual Gilbert Day?’s 5-k Run and 1 Mile Fun Run/walk. (The entrance to Stonecreek from Val Vista Drive will remain open.)
OUR IRRIGATION WATER IS NOT SUITABLE FOR DRINKING
According to the Town of Gilbert, our irrigation water is not suitable for drinking. This is reclaimed water!
No one has permission to open an irrigation valve box or tamper with the irrigation equipment. This is considered trespassing. Any individual seen tampering with Stonecreek equipment will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.
POOL TO CLOSE FOR THE WINTER
The pool is scheduled to be closed for the winter on November 15, 2000.
ASSOCIATION ACTIVITY:
TWO CONTRACTS WERE AWARDED THIS MONTH:
* Pacific Landscape Maintenance - winter rye grass ($4,100.00). We will be overseeding the same areas as we did last year.
* Pacific Landscape Maintenance - add granite and plants in the common areas.
WE HAVE 3 UPCOMING CONTRACTS:
Tennis courts surface maintenance,
Tennis court crack sealing,
Install additional lighting at the pool.
Note: the Board of Directors has a policy of reviewing all contracts yearly to insure that the contract price is in line with the price of the contract. We solicit bids when the price is too high, the quality of work is not what we expect, or we just want to insure that we have a competitive contract. This policy is enforced with all contracts.
DOES THE TOWN OF GILBERT HAVE A LEASH LAW?
Yes, it is called Running at Large and is enforced by the Police Department. Each dog shall be confined within an enclosure on the owner's property, or secured so that the dog is confined entirely to the owner's property, or on a leash not to exceed six feet in length and directly under the owner's control when not on the owner's property. (Note: there are exceptions, but this is the meat of the law. For the full text see: (Code 1984, 13-2-7) State law references) Dogs at large, A.R.S. 11-1012; There is not a leash law for cats.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE REPORT
Call Sharon Howes if you want information on a committee or want to join a committee (480-497-8124). Sharon will then handle the volunteer communications between the Board of Directors, the homeowners and Borg Property Services.
ARCHITECTURAL CONTROL
The committee processed the following requests:
RECEIVED: - 6 APPROVED - 4
DENIED: - 2 PENDING: - 0
Please remember that the fine for not getting approval before making an improvement that will change the appearance of your home or yard is $50.00 and that the fine escalates if it is not corrected. Correction requires ACC approval. Any ACC request made after the improvement has started (or completed) can be disapproved and the homeowner made to remove the improvement. You can get ACC forms from:
(1) Borg Property Services at 480-456-6927 or
BorgProp@AOL.COM
(2) George at 480-926-3619 (Stonecreek Resident) or
(3) Frank at 480-926-4412 (Stonecreek Resident),
George and Frank deal with ACC issues only; they are not responsible for handling other issues - like complaints about the HOA etc.
LANDSCAPE COMMITTEE REPORT Borg Property Services reported a total of 105 violations this month.
Please remember to cover any black plastic which is visible in the front yard and to give your palm trees regular maintenance (as well as your other vegetation.)

CONTROL YOUR DOG AT ALL TIMES!
It is a Town of Gilbert ordinance that your dog is on a lease or otherwise restrained at all times. Failure to do so can result in your dog being taken away. (See ?“Does the Town of Gilbert Have a Leash Law??”) The concern of the Association is that although your dog is friendly to you and ?“would never bite anyone?”, sometimes dogs will do the unexpected and will bite other people. This is especially true if they think they are protecting you from someone walking toward you.
DID YOU KNOW? . . . . .
More than 500,000 people are treated with transplanted bone and tissue each year?
One tissue donor can enhance more than 50 lives?
There is no cost to the family for an individual to become a donor?
The body is carefully restored, and the family can still have an open casket funeral?
Tissue transplants enhanced the lives of approximately half a million people in the U.S. in 1996. Individuals who experienced serious injury and illness are returned to healthy and productive lives each year from tissue transplants.
For more information on tissue recovery and transplantation, please call donor network of Arizona at 1-800-94-DONOR or 602-222-2200.

UNCONTAINED TRASH GUIDELINES
Uncontained trash pick up starts with the third Monday of each month. It must be on the curb/sidewalk by 5am Monday (OK to put it out on Saturday/Sunday) of your week?’s pickup and may not block the sidewalk. - half on the curb/sidewalk - as they cannot enter your (continued) property to retrieve your trash and it must be obvious that it is for trash pick up. Our uncontained trash pickup is the week of 10/15/2000 for October and 11/19/2000 for November. Green waste is picked up by a different truck than uncontained trash, but both will be picked up during the same week. If you have questions contact 503-6437.

DONATE YOUR USED BICYCLES
Now is the time to think about people less fortunate than ourselves. Here is a way that you can get rid of used bikes, make a donation, and save yourself the time and trouble of disposing of them all at the same time.
Call Tony Bernot at 480-892-7505 if you have any bicycles that you want to get rid of. They do not have to be in working order. Tony will come to your house, pick them up free of charge and give you a Gilbert Community Action Program (CAP) receipt that you can use as a tax deduction. Tony restores the bikes and gives them to CAP to give to needy children at Christmas time. Stonecreek has donated many bicycles over the last years. Maybe we can keep the tradition up. Call Tony, make his day and make a needy child happier this Christmas.
DID YOU KNOW THE TOWN OF GILBERT HAS A LAW CONCERNING THE "DISPOSAL OF FECAL MATTER?
"Any person owning, possessing, harboring or having the care, charge, control or custody of any dog shall immediately remove and thereafter dispose of any fecal matter deposited by said dog on public or private property, unless the property owner has given prior approval to use said property for this purpose. For the purpose of this section, dog fecal matter shall be immediately removed by placing said matter in a closed or sealed container and thereafter disposing of it by depositing said matter in a trash receptacle, sanitary disposal unit or other closed or sealed container. This section shall not apply to disabled individuals who, due to their disability, are unable to comply." Sec. 6-62. (Ord. No. 1007, ?§ I, 1 1-19-96)
?“TIPS FOR AVOIDING DOG BITES
BE A STICK TREE If a dog approaches, don?’t run or scream. Try to back against a tree or a car. If you have
time, climb on a car or up a tree. Then call (Continued) for help. If the dog moves away, you can then move away carefully.
LIE ON THE GROUND with your knees tucked to your chest and a fist over each ear if a dog knocks you down. Remain very still and quiet.
STARING THREATENS DOGS.
Be aware that about 80% OF DOG BITES OCCUR IN THE VICTIMS HOME or a friend?’s home. These ?“friendly?” dog bites account for the majority of treated dog bites.?” Source: www.amfam.com

SELLING YOUR HOME?
Please help yourself by telling your title company that a sale is pending and that they must notify Borg Property Services of the pending sale.
