easements

Posted in: Strathmoor Village
What a sad state of affairs that allows a ''few'' angry residents to Decorate OUR easements in any way they see fit. It's anything goes in Strathmoor Vilage, and if you don't like something, just come to the meeting, rant and rave, scream and shout and basically act like a child and you will get your way.

Have at it. Build those easements to the sky. Adorn them with whatever you see fit. All I can say is ''be careful what you wish for?
Re-read the proposed amendment

If you'll read the ADDED wording in the PROPOSED AMENDED Maintenance Ordinance, easements are being incorporated there. Your reply assumes the Easement Ordinance is going to be repealed period. Not the case.

easements

Janet, I re-read the amended section to the ordinance. Not repealed? It appears upon reading, that this amended version is the WORST OF ALL possible outcomes. Now there will be no stopping any and all plantings, landscape elements, statues, dead fish, etc. And who will decide what is ''sightly?'' What a can of worms this is going to be. If you drive down Gladstone, in front of the Leight house, you will notice bushes and grasses so tall they cover the No Parking sign there. It will only be a matter of time before the Bechers azaelas are head high. Have you ever seen a mature azaela? I hope my grandchildren or anyones grandchildren don't chase a ball into the street from one of those sidewalks. Not to mention the large rocks impeding water flow. But, I guess large rocks are okay, because Mr. Leight has a relative who is ''very smart,'' who told him to put them there. These people are all ridiculous. So my question is why? Why are we unable to offer a standard for our neighborhood that maintains uniformity and good sense. Can't the commissioners take a vote on Amendment 20 and just PASS IT?

Who is angry here?

I agree that sightly is a subjective word (referring to T. Brooks objection the previous note) and perhps not the best one to use. Yet, I can't think of another word that would be any less subjective. I believe the board is doing its best to be fair and practical about what is enforceable -- a difficult task as there is a disagreement here between neighbours.

This whole debacle is the opposite of what a garden is all about.

The author of this note appears to be the angry one here.

I can only hope there is room for all of the concerned folks to get past this and get back to the real point of gardening -- enjoying nature and our homes and neighbourhood.

A final point -- the Leichts (and I hope they don't mind my speaking about them in a public way) plan to take the plants from the easement when they leave at the end of this month. I am sorry to see them move -- they have been pleasant, caring neighbours.
