OUR CITY STATISTICS

Sep 20, 2002

I thought it more than wise to list several things that the Mayor shared with the Northland Community Council meeting on September 3rd. If you are like me, then you will be very surprised by these FACTS about our city.

1.) Columbus was rated as the 8th best city to live and work in the United States.
2.) Columbus is ranked 7th nationally in the Charitable giving.
3.) We are the 10th most ?“wired?” city.
4.) Columbus had the 2nd best library system in the WORLD.
5.) Columbus has the 2nd busiest fire station in the country, (Fire House #2). His Honor did admit that this was not a positive, but it does show the city?’s effectiveness.
6.) Columbus is rated as the 3rd best college town nationally.
7.) The Gross Metropolitan Product of Columbus is currently 64 billion dollars. That is stronger than 15 states combined, and 143 countries combined.

With all this to be proud of, it is also very true that Columbus is in the worse recession in 37 years. His Honor has cut 60 million dollars from the City budget without affecting emergency services. It is due to the budgetary cuts that is a reason that we do not have a green light on the speed bumps?…YET.
In case no one else has noticed, the City Of Columbus Police has been ticketing more and more the past couple of weeks. This is not just a coincidence. The Mayor is at least trying to show that he is very concerned with our plight, and this is the City?’s first attempt to help us.
I will love to hear from our residents about this, come to an agreement as far as our next step is concerned, so please show up and let your voice be heard.
