A LITTLE HISTORY
The Racepath Community is a small Black Village community located in what we may call a"donut hole" in the heart of Myrtle Beach, SC. It is approximately four blocks wide and approximately six blocks deep. The residents of the community are tight in kinship. It is set apart from the other Black communities that are in the city limits. Racepath is completely surrounded by the city, but not a part of the city's jurisdiction.
Years ago when this community was established, it's property owners did not wish for annexation into the city limits, therefore they were then and continue until the present to be a part of the county, bound by county rules and regulations. Racepath does not have some of the perks of a city community but they are presently content with what they do have not being in the city limits..
There is very good reasoning behind this decision and this is why the generations have continued to abide by the choices that their forefathers have made. They continue to deal with the positives and the negatives of not annexing with the city. This exhibits a form of strength within the community that most admire except for the city officials.
The strength in this community has caused the birth of Street Bridge Connections. The community realizes that their strength lies within and they are willing to accept the changes that has to be made internally to enhance their quality of life and the uplifting of the village.
