Memorandum
July 31, 2005
To: Robert Litke, City of Houston Planning Director
From: Charles X White
Subject: Invitation
Cc. Mayor Bill White and Others
On September 3, 2005 at 6:00 pm at the George R. Brown Convention Center I am co-hosting a dinner titled "Planning For Today Tomorrow". I am inviting you for two purposes (1) to request that you make a 10-15 minute presentation on the value of the Southern Houston Study and introduce the new director (2) to receive acknowledgement of the role you administered in the history of redesigning Houston's landscape.
The scope of the dinner is to honor the civic engagement process from the Allen Brothers as developers, Sam Houston and his stand for integrity in government and Jack Yates for his dedication to quality of life issues. There will be a presentation on our planning and design efforts with the universities, a keynote speaker and over forty civic club presidents will receive certificates of service from the north and south sections of Houston for their rich history in civic engagement process. We plan this a the first dinner to be held annually.
Mr. Litke this is not a change in my position concerning your involvement with the negative impact of the change in direction of Neighborhood Orientated Government and the Ordinance 1025 and Chapter 33, Super Neighborhood Ordinance that you navigated through with the mayor. However, there is always a greater good feature to a negative situation and this in my view is one of them.
I will call you on Monday for an appointment. Other details will follow. Thank you for your consideration.
