Mrs. Hegland:
Thanks for your concern regarding speeds in your neighborhood. As you
indicated, the speed limit can be reduced within heavily used recreation
areas such as roads within County parks etc. Unfortunately local roads
in a residential neighborhood do not fit the definition of a recreation
area. The State established speed limit on local roads is 25 mph. If
the drivers obey the posted 25 mph speed limit, the speeds would be
reasonable for the neighborhood.
There are a couple of items we do offer for neighborhoods such as
yours. One is the placement of our radar trailer displaying the speed of
the cars to the driver. The other is a neighborhood entry sign we allow
the neighborhood to install at the entrances to the neighborhood.
Application and information packets for both of these devices have been
placed in the mail to you.
Your neighborhood is unique in that there is an established park that
attracts people to a specific location. The county will be placing
warning signs on the approaches to the park as a warning to drivers.
Also, the Sheriff's Department has a newly formed Neighborhood Patrol
Deputy program specifically designed to address neighborhood issues such
as speeding. They can be contacted at 253-798-4944.
Thanks for your interest. If there are any questions please feel free
to contact us at 253-798-7250.

I recieved the information to post a sign at our entrances that state:
Please drive carefully, for our children's sake.
Or
Respect our neighborhood, please drive responsibly.
These signs must follow county guidelines, and we need place them up at our expense.
We just need someone to volunteer their land for a day to place the speed trailer on their lot, to help heighten speed awareness.
