With the beginning of spring and the onset of warmer weather, my mother and I have become increasingly concerned about the activities of the children within Sunset Village. First (and foremost), we worry about their safety; the amount of running, the use of scooters, the playing of soccer on the common areas and, particularly, in the parking areas is extremely dangerous. Second, we worry about our property; this weekend, we noticed a “ding” on the hood of our car. Both of us are positive that this damage did not occur when we were driving (indeed, the location almost ensures that we would have known had it occurred then), and we believe it happened as the result of one of the impromptu games played in the common area outside our house. Although rather small, this ding is in a particularly nasty area to repair and it will probably cost us quite a bit to do so. With the rest of the spring left remaining (not to mention the whole summer), the potential for such damage will certainly increase.
We believe that the current situation is out of hand and must be addressed. First, the homeowners within the complex are well aware that the common areas are not playgrounds and should not be used as such (if nothing else, the use of common areas as playgrounds is against association rules). Of particular concern is the disregard for basic safety concerning the parking areas. Simply put, children should not play anywhere cars exist, and it is of the utmost importance our association's rules are followed.
