Keep Kids Alive - Drive 25

Sep 08, 2003

Recent action from the City of Tulsa could soon put an end to speeding vehicles on our residential streets.

The Tulsa City Council approved a ?“speed hump?” ordinance and has introduced a new program called ?“Keep Kids Alive ?– Drive 25?”.
This traffic-calming program was then signed by Mayor Bill LaFortune, in a three-fold program that includes Education, Engineering and Enforcement.

According to Erin Patrick, Director of the Mayor's Office For Neighborhoods, homeowners can find out more about the speed hump ordinance and how to apply for one by visiting the Tulsa Public Works website and filling out the online form.
That web address is:

Patrick added that the ?“Keep Kids Alive ?– Drive 25?” program is partnered with the Tulsa Police Department and the Citizens Crime Commission.
Yard signs and trashcan stickers are available for purchase. And brochures are available for neighborhood distribution. Call the Crime Commission at 585.5209 for more information.

?“Keep Kids Alive ?– Drive 25?” is a program that originated in Omaha, Nebraska that has met apparent success in curbing the number of speeders in neighborhoods.
Swan Lake residents are strongly encouraged to become aware of this program and promote it as a way to help reduce the speed of those who routinely drive ion excess of 25mph through our streets.
