Is the city of Schertz (or Guadalupe Cnty) losing touch with everything thats going on in the economy? The county just approved a tax hike to pay for raises--probably long overdue--which will no doubt irritate many residents--especially during this bad economic period. From what I'm hearing and reading--the City of Schertz is having money problems and won't come out and admit it--I've been told that our law enforcement is giving out more traffic tickets for very small/minor violations--probably to raise money for the city. The city has a new 50000 sqft library for about 18,000 residents (which I'm sure everyone is using instead of the internet) and now they want you to support 6 propositions totaling $22.4M next month. Obviously there are many out there that believe we're not going to be stiffed with this bill if those bonds are approved. Somebody is also going to have to maintain those facilities--can you spell "tax increases?" I don't know if many of you seen or read what these bonds are but you might want to take the time and educate yourself. One thing is for sure--the city council is banking on the fact that they will pass these bonds and give the appraisal office the ammo it needs to increase appraised value on your homes to get this money. If you don't believe me--just wait and see. I pay over $3700+/yr in taxes on a 1996 hm (2300 sqft) appraised at $174K--and it has no frills like title flooring, marble counters, pool, etc. The more responsible thing would be to get your house in order financially before asking us to shell out more money. Checkout those bond pkgs and don't forget to exercise you right to vote.
