newsletters

I like getting my newsletter also, but I do not want it put in my mailbox. My mail had been delivered already and it is an invasion of privacy.

Newsletter complaining

First of all, let me say that I appreciate the newsletters, and the work of the CANA volunteers who take the time to deliver them.

With respect to the issue of whether placing a newsletter in a mailbox is a federal offense, I am not an attorney, but as far as I know, that is still an ''official'' law, although I doubt that any court would seriously enforce it, any more than I can imagine a homeowner taking the time and legal expense to prosecute such an outdated law.

If such a concern exists, then maybe a mailbox with a slot and a lock, sold in many places, is an option. I don't think that anyone should feel that they have to go out and buy one of these because the evil newsletter deliverers of CANA are on the prowl, but if it's such a serious issue with someone, it might be an option.

Placing the newsletters on a door are a viable option, although I'm sure that someone will research to see if the ''federal front door law'' has been violated.

Good heavens, it's a neighborhood newsletter delivered by volunteers of a very honorable association.

Newsletter Delivery

CANA newsletter delivery volunteers are instructed it is a violation of federal law to leave the newsletter in someone's mailbox, which is reserved solely for transacting business with the United States Postal Service.
We have told people to leave the newsletter in the door, and if there is absolutely nothing available but the mailbox then to skip that house. Sometimes I will leave it in the little newspaper holder hanging under the mailbox, and the last time I did so with the postman watching and she just smiled and said hello, so I'm assuming that's okay since that's what it's for.
If people have been leaving newsletters in mailboxes then we apologize and will try to ensure at the next delivery time that this does not recur.

deliverer's point of view

I help deliver the CANA newsletter in my neighborhood. I've never put one in a mailbox. Sometimes there's no convenient place (like in a storm door) to put the newsletter quickly so I will try stick it under the doormat or under a chair, etc.

I have no interest in anyone else's mail, I get enough of my own.

Hats off to CANA and its volunteers for working to make a difference.
