Update on (the same panhandlers) I had to wait to go through the green light at the Beach street exit on the 30 west ramp because someone was holding up traffic because of giving money to this panhandler. Panhandling is illegal and where they do it is a major safety issue. The day is going to come that they are either hit by a car or worst someone getting into an accident because of them disrupting the flow of traffic. They have now been approached 7 times by police for panhandling and nothing has been done yet that has made them stop. The one panhandler is a short bald guy and the other is tall and thin. They were out on the exit at 10am this morning. action taken by officer, relocated to the shelter and within 15 minutes heading toward 121. Probably moving to Beach / 121 exit he also works that area. The call # for this call F071480824

Panhandlers

I have looked into the police issues brought up in the emails below. The two panhandler, Carl Dalton and Evert Schmidt, Officer Osborne made the first call on them. She issued both citations and transported them to the shelter to remove them from the area. She advised them who the service providers are in the area and where they need to be to receive services. The second time they were caught in this area Officer Green transported them to jail and cash bonded them on the citations. Mr. Schmidt has since been arrested on a parole violation for possession of a controlled substance.
