OAKS Neighborhood Association - ONA - July 2009
Fellow neighbors, as some of you are aware, a neighborhood association is re-establishing for the OAKS Neighborhood.
The association is called
Oaks Neighborhood Association.
This note is a plea for your help. We need members, we need you!
We really understand that when one hears about community associations, the first thing that comes to mind is ?‘someone or some group wants to tell me how to maintain my home, yard, cars, etc.?’ That is NOT our purpose, we are a NEIGHBORHOOD ASSOCIATION, not a home owner association.

Our goals are to help keep our neighborhood a SAFE, CLEAN and HEALTHY environment for all of us. We want to be proud of our neighborhood!
Here is a map of our community ?–

We are in section 55; our Neighborhood Police Officer (NPO) is Brian Christian. His E-mail address is christianb@ci.garland.tx.us. His phone # is 972-485-4816.
Remember, Officer Christian is OUR neighborhood police officer. His principle function is to keep our community safe. He cannot fulfill this task without us. We need to be an extension of his eyes and ears.
Officer Christian was present at our July 23 meeting; he provided us with some valuable insight as to how we can help keep our community safe.
He provided this link ?–

It lists the crime statistics, per month, for each district. Compare how district 55 (our neighborhood) stacks up against the other districts. Thanks to the vigilance of Officer Christian, we are comparing well, in regards to crime prevention. BUT WE CAN DO BETTER.
Currently, we are in need of a committee head for crime and safety. We certainly invite one of you to come to our meeting (we meet on the 4th Thursday of each month at 7:00- Location: Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, 3217 Guthrie Road), and put your hand up to lead this committee.
Safety is one of the keys, in re-establishing the Association. Schedule permitting, Officer Christian will regularly attend the meetings to give us ?‘up to date?’ crime activity in the neighborhood. Please attend, if for this reason alone.
If beautification is your thing, we have a very knowledgeable committee head that welcomes you to join his team.
Civic interest, Code compliance, Communication, Welcoming, Membership- we have wonderful people heading these groups that are in need of members.
Come join- HELP US TO HELP YOU.
In closing, we would like to emphasize that we absolutely need to increase membership in order to achieve community goals- some of you may want speed bumps in strategic places to prevent vehicle high speed travel- a safety concern or who to notify if persistent littering or loud music is transpiring ?– code compliance.
We welcome any and all citizens in our neighborhood- home owners, renters and businesses.
Come and join the OAKS NEIGHBORHOOD SSOCIATION.
Thank you in advance for your support.
Respectfully,
The Oaks Neighborhood Association Board and Committee Members
