Oaks Neighborhood Association

ONA – News Flier – 9/10/09

Sep 13, 2009

Greetings neighbors!
Well, it?’s that time of year where our youngsters are back in schools and their school activities are starting to ramp up. Not much time for sustained mischief, as homework and school activities will (hopefully) take up the bulk of their time. Opportunities to commit crimes, however is still lurking.
Regarding mischief/crime, our neighborhood police officer, Brian Christian, recently shared some photo?’s that he took in our neighborhood. He showed about ten (10) homes that had the garage doors opened and no one were monitoring them for substantial periods of time! He mentioned that the time that he got out of his police vehicle and walk toward the garage to take a photo, of the open garage doors, was more than enough time for a thief to run in a grab items of interest. Officer Christian mentioned that this (leaving garage doors open) was one of the reason why crime spiked last month (August), in our neighborhood.
See this link for some insight (we are district 55)?…

Officer Christian will be in attendance at our next general meeting, September 24th. He will be happy to provide move insight into terms and descriptions of these incidents. Officer Christian will be addressing home safety as well. Please make plans to attend our next meeting.

Our beautification committee has started a project called ?‘Adapt a Park?’ ?– We are soliciting neighbors to sign up to give a week of your time ?– on a rotational basis- (maybe an hour a day) in helping to rid trash in our park (Ablon Park). See map below. If you are interested and need more detail, please attend our next meeting or query, via our website or Beautification Committee Chair ?– Al Olsen.

As always, we are asking for more participation/membership in the Association. We are just neighbors helping neighbors to keep our neighborhood safe, clean and respectful.
