Can anyone definitively tell me if Hickory Hills HOA allows homeowners to rent their homes? We were told that no renting was allowed, however there are at least 2 homes near mine on Georgetown that are rentals. Thanks.

response to rental homes
Unfortunately, it is illegal to tell someone they cannot rent thier own property. We could never enforce it even if we wanted to, although I agree that it can cause problems when renters come in and don't keep the property up the way most of us do. |

Actually, it is not illegal to "tell someone they cannot rent thier [sic] own property." A homeowners association may enact such a covenant and legally enforce it. There is abundant caselaw in all 50 states supporting it. |

I own a home that is rented in Hickory Hills and I have great renters, never a complaint and I check on my home often. I rented because I could not sell it last year without dropping the price to a ridiculous low price that would also lower everyone's property values as well. And I could have done that because I bought the house when the property was low. And values jumped greatly after I purchased mine. I CHOSE not to do that because I didn't want to hurt my neighbors!! Maybe you guys should find another way to handle the renters living next to you. Like contacting the police if there's a problem. I know some of the homeowners who keep their homes worse than my renters |
