Dear RHS Student,
We would like you to consider getting involved in one of the fastest growing sports in Michigan. Rowing may be new to most schools in Michigan, but it has been a part of Wyandotte high school sports for over 80 years. Rowing has a long history in the city of Wyandotte and Roosevelt has played an important role with local; national and international championships. Wyandotte's rowers have the reputation in the rowing community of hard working athletes who know how to compete.
Whether you are an athlete participating in other sports or have never participated in sports
before we welcome you to the challenge of being a rower for Roosevelt. The sport of rowing
has many categories to allow every hard-working athlete the chance to compete and succeed.
Whether you are female or male, short or tall, light or heavy, there is a place for all students
who wish to push themselves physically and mentally. The training is tough, but the rewards
are great. Any student who completes the training and the season will be in the best shape of
his/her life. We compete at some of the most prestigious races in North America, including the
Midwest Championships in Cincinnati (with over 50 teams) and the Canadian Schoolboy in St.
Catharine (with over 150 teams.) The state championship is held in Wyandotte every year
with over 25 teams attending.
Aside from the physical strength, the great competition, and the fun of travel, rowers also learn the benefits of team work and commitment. We count on each other to succeed in racing, practices, fundraising, and equipment maintenance. For those participating in Fall and Winter sports we believe rowing will complement the physical strength and skills necessary to succeed in those sports. The skills taught and developed through the sport of rowing help to transform many youngsters into well rounded, responsible and healthy adults.
If interested in rowing or just want to learn more about the sport please join us at practice at the
Wyandotte Boat Club, 1 Pine Street. The practice and racing schedule can be found on the back
of this letter. If you have any additional questions about rowing please see Mr. Hickey,
assistant principal and rowing coach, during your lunch.
If you are interested and believe you have what it takes please consider rowing.
Sincerely,
James Bertino Audrie Daniels Patrick Hickey Bob Jarosz Lindsey Tarabula
