Dogs are required to be registered every April. A valid rabies certificate is required at the time of registration. Pawtucket residents are allowed three (3) dogs per household.

Fees:

  • All Dogs (Spayed/Neutered - must present certificate of spay/neuter): $16.00
  • All Dogs (Not Spayed/Neutered): $26.00
  • Rottweiler breeds require $25,000 liability insurance §116-37.
  • Pit Bulls require spay/neutering and $100,000 liability insurance. (NO NEW PIT BULLS ARE ALLOWED IN THE CITY AS OF 1/1/2004 - §116-37.1)

Senior Citizens (65 years of age or older - must present proof of age):

  • All Dogs (Spayed/Neutered - must present certificate of spay/neuter): $6.00
  • All Dogs (Not Spayed/Neutered): $11.00

Dog licenses may be obtained at the City Clerk's office during normal business hours.

Traditionally during the month of March, the City holds a rabies clinic where dogs & cats can receive their rabies shot at reduced rates. Licenses for dogs may be obtained at the clinic. Dates, times, and other details will be placed in the Times and on the Online City Calendar.

I was under the false impression that insurance and leash laws were the key, but call the Dog Officer or the Police if you have any concerns about any dogs to check it out....as PIT BULLS ARE BANNED

Wow....I would have never guessed...Forgot all about that a few years ago the council zapped them.

There are a few I have seen around but most well behaved and leashed.

I assume that this is one of those things we call the police if we see some of the nasty folks parading their dogs as threats to us or kids.

Dear Neighbors,

The pit bull law still exists, but well violated.  Several of my neighbors own signs that say "Beware of Pit Bull".

Peace,

Lots of people have signs saying alarms or beware of dog and no dogs or alarms.   Must be politicians with all those dreams
