Committee Reports
JoAnn?—It is time for a Block Watch Party?—August 1. Councilman Unseld has arranged for the use of the park. It is National Night Out and we hope to have 200 persons. A motion was made for a grant of $200 from Toonerville coffers to buy food. We need to let Linda at the Information Center know we are having the event and more information at the Old Louisville Chamber of Commerce. Please get information to Phil DiBlasi and he will put it on the web. We need 200 fliers for the neighborhood.
Helga?—Homeland Security Committee. Crime rate is lower than last summer. There was, however, a holdup on Oak Street at 1:00 am. Police have arrested two persons in connection to this (or another?) holdup. Someone reported that there were two vehicles with Pimps?—a black SUV (a Monaco?) be on the watch for them around 1st and St Catherine also a Red Chevy extended cab truck with a chrome tool box in the bed?—seen in the 1st and Brook area?—if you see either, please call the police dispatch-574-7111.
Parking?—The parking permit for the area near UofL has passed the Metro Council?—South of Hill between 1st to 4th streets. You will need a permit to park in the area.
Truck Traffic?—We are still trying to get rid of truck traffic in Old Louisville. Butchertown brought a petition to Old Louisville Neighborhood Council for their support and OLNC signed on in support.
Old Louisville Neighborhood Council
Mailings of the Old Louisville Journal will be extended to all Old Louisville homes?—going from 700 to 3700 copies and they plan to include tenants as well. They need articles from the different neighborhood groups each month.
Property Improvement Committee (PIC)
Want all sattelite dishes removed from all buildings
Want to insure that apartment buildings are not being spit up into smaller units again. If you see a vacant building, let Don Driskell know and he will add it to the inventory of vacant buildings.
They are starting to send letters to homeowners, realtors who do business in the area and new owners informing them of the regulations. Apparently some have bought thinking they were able to split up the larger buildings that had been single family dwellings. If they are vacant for a year, they revert to single family status. Toonerville has a good opportunity to keep outside investors from coming in and cutting up these buildings.
Article in Leo listed 1152 as the eyesore of the year
There is now opportunity to have input into the use of noise walls on I-65. Many feel that the noise level is what is holding the houses on Floyd Street from being fixed up. There are federal and state funds available to make this happen. Send in your support for noise walls to Council Unseld?’s office and Herb Fink. Other interested parties include the Kentucky State Transportation Cabinet and the University of Louisville. Motion was made to prepare a neighborhood letter to go to Herb Fink with copies to George Unseld. Kevin will write the letter?—well maybe a copy to Chuck Anderson as well. Also suggested that it include something about the truck traffic. Brian Seger will draft for Kevin. This was approved
Other discussion
Someone (Glass?) has bought/is buying/is considering buying Chuck Robinson?’s building to turn it into a coffee shop/bake shop. They do want to remove the public telephone. It was suggested that we follow up with Glass and help him make contacts. Lois Cash sold the property?—has it been vacant over a year? Helga will get contact information and send it to Kevin for a note.
The former 316 Restaurant is now Amechie? Italian Restaurant, owned by the former owners of 3rd Street Caf?©. Check them out.
IT was reported that the neighborhood council is considering a vote to take part of the area including the area around 1st and Oak to ?“moist?” meaning getting rid of single servings and no TWA alcohol bottles and beer cans?—rather can sell alcohol by packages.
Problem by the Salvation Army on Brook?—lots of trash. A letter needs to go to the Executive Director of the Salvation Army?’s service unit with emails to Metro Call as well.
Meeting closed at 8:00 pm or thereabouts. Our Councilman below.
