Spring is here! As the weather improves, more people return to the streets and crimes (such as robberies and breaking and entering) begin to increase. Already this spring we've had several incidences of homes having their doors kicked in and small items stolen or people leaving their doors unlocked and someone walking in off the street taking purses and other small, but expensive, items. To help prevent this, we'd like to remind you of a few things you can do to help prevent this from happening in our neighborhood:
* Never leave your doors or windows unlocked--not even for a minute! It takes just a minute for someone to come in and help him or herself to your property and be on their way.
* Be a good neighbor and keep your eyes and ears open for unusual activities next door and across the street. Say hello to your neighbors! Be able to recognize them, their children and their vehicles.
* Don't hesitate to call the police when you see suspicious activities--574-7111
* Pick up trash on your street. Show that you care about your neighborhood and that you will not tolerate crime on your street.
* Consider starting a Neighborhood Watch on your block. The Toonerville Trolley Neighborhood Association has 7 very active block watches and block captains. We'd love to see every block have an active Block Watch! It's easy and doesn't take a lot of time. Contact Helga Ulrich at hhubmw@cs.com for more information about how to organize your block!
