I saw a home about 2 blocks from Park West that had Fig Ivy on their wood fence (it's also on Park West perimeter masonry fence) . It must have been there for a few years and had grown to fully cover the whole fence.

It looked fantastic. Green n' lush, not old and drab as I see the gray fences.

I have done some asking around and the Fig Ivy will not have much (if any) effect on the lifetime of the fences we all have. I plan on planting the Ivy about March/April about 8 apart at out back fence & a couple at the front. It will take only a few years to transform our fence.

In my search I found most Austin places have them for about $10.00 per plant. That can add up if you want 12-20.

I found a place in Houston that charges only $3.49 and this is the response to my question of shipping, If anyone wants to place an order the same time I do and save shipping costs, email me:

Hi, Sal. Yes, we do ship fig ivy, but we do not ship live plants earlier
than February 15. The fig ivy in our catalog is in 4'' pots and cost $3.49/ea. The best time to plant them would be when temperatures stay above 60
degrees. Each pot is packed in the shipping box so that it does not shift
and become damaged during transportation. All plants are shipped Priority or faster, and since you're in Austin an order will usually be received in about a day. In addition, we do not have a minimum order amount. I hope

I received this email from Susan Hoover. This is a nice offer that I will take her up un in 4-8 weeks, I heard it is best that the night temp stays above 50 degrees for these new planted Ivy.

Sal: The fig ivy is a great choice for fences and walls. If we have a
really cold winter (not the case in the last two years) there will be some
top brown out, but you can just brush it off with your hand. It takes a
little while to get these going, but once they take off, they are fantastic.

I would be happy to include any plants you would need with one of my orders
in the Spring. They are not available now. I order the one gallon plants
(these are quite a bit more substantial than the 4'' pots and easier to get
started.) The last order I placed, I got them for $4.25 for each one
gallon. With this size, you can space them 2.5 to 3' apart and they will
fill in. If you or anyone in Park West, or even Circle C would like some, I
would be happy to attach them to an order so there would be no shipping fee.

Please let me know, and I will find out when they are available. Also, the
nursery I buy from has very good quality plants that are well rooted in, so
I trust the product.
