Sal Sells 1/2 Truths and Lies...

Summer Swim League/Team

The fact is that you still don't get it.

The summer swim program only has about 120 children in it. They are mostly 6 years old to 10 years old. They only swim about 2 months of the year- 2 hours a day, 3 to 4 days per week. They take up 2 to 3 lanes. They don't have to have the heater on because the water is warm enough by the time they start. They sign up in March, start practicing in May and swim six- (6) consecutive meets, which are over by July 1st.

It is a way to get kids to stay in condition, ie. exercise, after school lets out. It is great exercise for our neighborhood kids. In fact, some older people that live out here have their grandchildren come down for this time period...during the summer...so they can enjoy the team experience too! I think we only had 2 or 3 families that were allowed to swim with our team because they used to live in Circle C and moved elsewhere and did not belong to a country club and wanted their kids to stay in the Circle C Skimmers Summer Swim Program.

This program is not the year round program and all of the parents of the kids have to volunteer to make the program work. The parents do not get paid. The ''Head Parents'' do not get paid. All of the kids have to pay a nominal fee to join to take care of our League Insurance- yes we do have separate insurance for the team. It is Non-profit. We have a non-profit ID number. The money also pays for a party after the season, ribbons, medals, trophies, coaches salaries, etc.

The pool phone number was published along with the volunteer head parents names and their unlisted home and cell phone numbers so parents could call if they had any questions, ie. still having practice if it is raining? still having meet at Lost Creek if it is raining here?, and so forth. The pool number being posted on the sign up sheets had nothing to do with those parent's wanting to be known as having anything to do with the pool.

All Sal or you or anyone else has to do if you want to know about the Summer Swim League is call and ask. We do not take up the whole pool. We are not the Year Round Team!
Strickly Volunteering

The Swim Mom's that you refer to are ''Strickly Volunteers''. You have been told how the Skimmers Summer Swim team works, but here it is again.

The Headparents attend League meetings beginning in January of each year. The League is Non Profit. There are 12 teams from all around Austin in this league. The Skimmer Summer Swim team only swims 2 months out of the year. All swimmers parents must volunteer to make it work. The skimmer swim team is not a Year Round Team. It is also not a swim lesson.

The money the kids pay to be on the team pays for insurance for the team, trophies, ribbons, medals, end of the season party, and coaches. The rest is all volunteer. The phone number of the swim center was there for the parents to be able to contact the lifeguards, coaches, or whomever they needed to ask questions. The phone numbers (unlisted ones at that) were also listed for the Head Parents. The cell phone numbers as well as the home phone numbers for these volunteers were listed.

This Team is run because of volunteers giving their time to make it happen. That is what makes the community of Circle C so great. Volunteers taking time out of their lives to help make a program work. To make life more fun for the kids and to keep them in shape. The kids mostly live in circle c. There were 2 or 3 families that we allowed to be on the team that weren't living in Circle C. The team has about 120 kiddos ranging in the ages of 4 years old to 16 years old, most of them in the 6 to 10 year old category.

They work hard and their parents work even harder. It is work but it is a non paying job. The rewards are in the success of the program. The Swim Mom's you keep referring to are Volunteers...not paid in monetary sense...only in the successes of our kiddos.

It's the ''non-profit'' dare!

You said ''It is Nonprofit''.

Post the address, phone number, nonprofit state number and person to contact so I can verify your statement.

I'll then check it out with the state of Texas. Any resident of Texas has the right to look over all the books of a nonprofit. If I get time, I'll look into it within the next few weeks. We'll see if Bradley/Bartlett have angled a deal for themselves with this ''non-profit'' venture.
Hope This Will Help You

Sal, what is wrong with you? I have never told you anything that was not true.

The team is in the Austin Hills Swim League. The Austin Hills Swim League has the Non profit ID number. Since we were not the Treasurer...I do not have the ID number but you should be able to look up without that. The teams in the League are
1. Austin Country Club
2. Barton Creek Country Club
3. Barton Creek West
4. Circle C Swim Center
5. Couryard Tennis and Swim Club
6. Lake Hills Community Association
7. Lake Pointe Swim Center
8. Lost Creek Country Club
9. River Place Country Club
10. Western Hills Athletic Club
11. West Austin Athletic Club
12. Westwood Country Club

The insurance is with Risk Management Services, Inc. The policy is always for one- (1) year even though we only swim for 2 months. The effective date for this years policy was 5/15/2003 through 5/15/2004.
