Oak Hill Association of Neighborhoods (OHAN) Candidate forum:
March 2, 2005 6:00-9:00 P.M.

OHAN, in conjunction with the Regents School (west of Travis Country, off of Southwest Parkway), is hosting a candidates forum on March 2, 2005. The next City Council election will be held on Saturday, May 7, 2005. There are two seats on the council up for election. Come meet with local elected officials, and listen to the candidates explain their vision for the City.

Refreshments and an interesting time are available for you!

ACAC has been invited to cover the debates for re-broadcast on cable TV.

Two years ago, OHAN sponsored a similar debate that drew about 12 candidates, near the end of campaign season. This year, it's at the kickoff for the campaigns, so you will be some of the first to hear the issues, the platforms, and comments about how SW Austin can swing he election. (When we get out to vote, we have a very strong and visible voting block)

Mark your calendar and plan to come.

Cable TV - Sunday 12:30

The first city council candidate debates will be on ACAC TV on Sunday, March 6th, at 12:30. (it's not listed, yet, but I expect it on Ch 10).

If you can't find it or you missed it, call the studio at 478-8600

ACTV operates ACAC, which is a free, public service video production company that makes equipment available to members for free. This is one of the little known things that makes Austin unique - our two cable TV companies (Time Warner and Grande) are required, as part of their contracts with the city, to provide this studio and equipment to any citizen or group.

Priority to prime time broadcasting times is reserved for the NEWEST shows, rather than the most long standing. This gives new producers a good shot at the best air times. Live productions, particularly shows the have regular content, are also given high priority, to help keep the site from becoming a free commercial for out of town groups with extreme views or something they are selling.

It work. It's not just about the music or preachers. It includes a weekly report by Daryl Slusher, call-in shows, local performing arts shows, and alternative opinions on just about everything.

However, this resource is in some financial trouble and continued support from the city may be shrinking. Their board of directors has been contentious and some money has been lost or unaccounted for (not a whole lot, but it underscores a serious lack of financial over-sight, so they are getting audited, too)
