Obviously, you have not see the carnage that these critters are capable of.  I truly hope that you nor anyone else in our neighborhood ever has to experience the pain of seeing your pet devoured right before your eyes.  I have.

Listen to what White Lightning is saying; the animals we are seeing are not a genetically pure species-- many could be considered coy-dogs and are a menace to children and pets.

Because of the inbreeding with feral dogs they have no fear of humans; moreover, they are sometimes aggressive toward small children (which they interpret as just another prey species).    When I was working as a biologist, we noticed they usually were most active at night or at dusk; my friends tell me they are now changing their behavior to where they can be seen in daytime.    Often they hunt in pairs or small groups unlike wolves which are pack animals.

I have lost several pets due to them (which I've seen jump fences to get at a small docile dog) and was convinced the service animal the little autistic boy had lost in Grand Prairie had been killed by coyotes before it turned up last week.   That was a relief.

I have heard about coyotes going after small animals and we sure do have a lot of stray cats running around.  Always knew coyotes were night prowlers.  I have not seen one or two roaming around in the day time myself.   I still think it is sad that other animals are being forced out of their habitat..ei, raccoons, etc. 

You're right I have been lucky enough to never have experienced seeing my pet killed by a coyote. I'm sorry to hear that happened to you. I can't even imagine the horror. The only time I ever saw them in person was when we were building our house 10 years ago. We came by to see the progress and were standing in the kitchen when two walked in. That was a little scary.

I agree about the stray cats they are eveywhere. I have one stray momma cat that has had two litters under the pampass grass in my backyard this year. We bought a trap to try to catch her a couple of months ago. I wanted to take her and have her spayed but she is too smart.  I talked to one organization "friends of feral cats" they estimate there are in excess of 250,000 in DFW alone. Very sad.
