No Security for HUD Tenants?

Posted in: Jacksonville Tenants Union

Did you know that security cameras are not required in multi-family HUD apartments?

This is ridiculous!  "Digital imaging" has become part of our infrastructure in the US, and certainly plays a huge role in the justice system, for the prosecution of criminal activity.  Nearly everywhere you go these days there is a camera watching you: in the grocery store, state highways, banks, retail businesses, ATM machines, cell phones, web cams; even the entire downtown area of Ybor City, FL is monitored by cameras.  But it is not a requirement in HUD housing complexes.

Let's face it, 42% of crime in Jacksonville occurs in apartment complexes, and probably much of that is in HUD apartments. JSO even has an "Apartment Task Force."  HUD needs to change this policy immediately, and I urge you to notify you City Council about this matter.  Jacksonville Journey has made the issue of apartment complex crime much of their focus, and you can help by notifying them that much of their efforts will be in vane unless cameras are installed in HUD housing.

Also check out the "Crime-Free Multi-Housing" Program.  This program is quickly growing and is very appealing to both landlords and renters.  You can get more info on this program at the Jacksonville Tenants' Union Home page.  The page also contains contact numbers for JSO if you are interested in participating.  This program will do more for crime-reduction in Jacksonville and be more successful than anything we have know before!
