advertisementA Southwest Side fire destroyed a family's garage Wednesday, burning a car and displacing eight people, a fire official said.
No injuries were reported.
The fire began about 11:30 a.m. when something near the vehicle parked in the garage caught fire in the 5800 block of South Midvale Park Road, said Capt. Paul McDonough, a Tucson Fire Department spokesman.
The fire set off a smoke detector inside the home, alerting six people inside. They then left the home, McDonough said.
The two other family members weren't home at the time of the fire, he said.
Firefighters were able to control the blaze so that it didn't spread to the rest of the house, McDonough said. Damage was estimated at $150,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation, McDonough said.
The family living in the home is staying with friends and relatives while the house is repaired, he said.
