Imani Church
Minutes
Linda, Oak Tree Estates:
The prospective buyer for the Oaktree Golf Course intends to rezone the property for multi-family land and build 1,900 condominiums. This would increase the population in our area by 3,800 residents resulting in multiple issues including traffic congestion. It would also decrease available recreational and pervious land, which is key to reducing flooding and adding to our aquifer. Linda presented a petition for our residents to sign to protest this purchase. If you are interested in signing a petition, please see your street captain.
Commissioner Suzanne Boisvenue, City of Oakland Park:
She serves on the Broward League of Cities, which includes 31 municipalities. Tallahassee is recommending that gas stations with 10 pumps will have generators. Broward League of Cities is pushing for 5 pumps. She passed out a sample blue sign reading ?“This facility is Hurricane Ready,?” that will be posted in stores and gas stations that have generators. The permitting department will issue the signs. The Publix on US1 and Oakland Park (Coral Ridge Plaza) has a generator.
Walmarts with the help of C. Lieberman have agreed to be ice and water distribution areas.
WIOD is the Broward County radio station.
Oakland Park?’s Pre-agenda Conference are the first and third Mondays from 7-9PM.
She suggests wireless cards for laptops to get updates during a hurricane. Verizon was only provider to have continuous service during H. Wilma.
For generators, use a 12-3, yellow extension cord that runs at least 100 feet away from a house.
OP is asking for lower millage rates to ease OP taxes. Look at School Board and waste taxes and fees for increases.
OP is looking to the future to address increasing waste rates. OP is charged a ?“tipping fee?” at the dump, which is based on weight. To keep waste fees down, everyone needs to be more conservative with waste.
Joyce Roderick, resident:
She attended the Mayor?’s Alliance of Home Owner Associations on September 13, 2006 with Tricia M. Surinak. Issues were discussed pertaining to OP neighborhoods. Main issues were juvenile curfews, illegal motorized carts and scooters, speeding, vandalism, homelessness, traffic congestion, the need for increased police, and noise pollution from loud cars and Ft. Lauderdale Executive Airport.
She also recommended visiting www.bcpa.net to check property taxes for this year.
Other issues discussed amongst residents:
Royal Palm Park Connection-it is in the planning phase and we would like to request that a locking gate be installed to decrease juvenile delinquencies problems.
Curfews-what are they and who is enforcing them?
Community Roundtable with the City Manager on September 26, 2006- Mary Alvarez will represent TLS.
Increased juvenile delinquency in Royal Palm Park and neighborhood-Joyce Roderick will address with Bud Bentley, director of Parks and Recreation.
Volunteer Program-TLS Hurricane Committee members need to complete IS-100 and IS-700, CPR, and Volunteer application form.
Phone tree-Tricia M. Surinak will create.
Advertising meeting-T. Surinak will create laminated signs on card stock. Residents near the entrances of TLS will post near the entrance 1-2 days prior to the next meeting and remove promptly after the meeting has occurred.
