Twin Lakes South
Neighborhood Meeting
November 20, 2007

?• Welcome: T. Surinak
?• Shared responsibilities: T. Surinak
Presented list of responsibilities for TLS Neighborhood Organization, including meeting arrangements (i.e. signs, confirming site and guests, and follow-up questions), meeting minutes, OP Commission meetings, Pre-agenda Commission meetings, Mayor?’s Alliance, Community Roundtable, OP Neighborhood Coalition, and other. Neighbor Jed Shank volunteered to attend the 2nd OP Commission meeting of every month and the OP Neighborhood Alliance meetings. Neighbor Ed Smith volunteered to make larger signs and post them prior to the monthly meeting.

?• City of Oakland Park Community Appearance proposals: T. Surinak for Rick and Melissa Delman (absent).
The Delman?’s watched the 11/7/07 OP Commission meeting and forwarded the PowerPoint presentation to T. Surinak, who forwarded to all in the TLS email group. The Community Appearance proposals are based on the recommendation of the Millagren Consulting groups and 52 residents who were surveyed. The proposals would affect many TLS residents. The Delmans said they will closely watch the proposal. Had it not been for the TLS meeting on 10/16/07 when presenter Don Kaas mentioned the Community Appearance proposals, TLS neighbors would not have been informed about these proposals.
?• Broward Beautiful Grant: T. Surinak
T. Surinak has a phone conference scheduled with OP horticulturalist Cathy D?’Angelo on 12/4/07 to discuss ways the City can assist in implementation.
?• Lights Survey: T. Surinak for Joyce Rodrick (absent) and Rick Delman (absent)
Presented a drafted survey. All neighbors in attendance recommended that the survey include more detailed information about the options. Neighbor Ed Smith shared his findings. He spoke with Chief Widing and said lighted neighborhoods have a quicker response time, because of ease in finding street addresses. Ed Smith spoke with Chief Bukata and said that lighted neighborhoods have fewer vehicular accidents. He also found that some auto and homeowner insurance companies reduce premiums for homes and vehicles in lighted neighborhoods. Ed Smith also proposed researching a grant and/or cooperation with FPL that supports solar powered lights.
?• Propose agenda items for December: all neighbors
How to increase neighborhood participation
?• Open discussion: Neighbors wanted to know if they granted an easement for light poles and the light pole fell, who would be liable? Would FPL pay for property damages?
?• Adjourn 7:55PM

Next meeting 7:00PM, Tuesday, December 18, 2007 at Imani Church.
