Our neighbors won the Broward Beautiful grant to replace the trees damaged by Wilma on the right-of-ways between Prospect Road and NW 44th Street. Winners will be announced in September. The City of Oakland Park has given us a written commitment to maintain the property and pay for the water meter and monthly bill. This grant is only available to not-for-profits and neighborhood organizations. The money can only be spent on landscaping and must include over 50% native species in the plan. Our grant totals $2,215. We will be initiating this project in 2007.
This grant is available to neighborhoods in Oakland Park for up to $5000 each year. The money can only be used for landscaping of common areas, neighborhood entranceway signs, and traffic calming devices. As of this year, we have not applied for this grant.
Broward County awards $500 each year to not-for-profits and neighborhoods to constuct a butterfly garden on common areas. Our common areas include the right-of-ways between Prospect Road and NW 44th Street and the footpath to Royal Palm Park. Either place would be ideal for a butterfly garden.
