?“A Visit with Mr. Lincoln?” is both entertaining and educational. Listen to Abraham Lincoln as he shares his struggles and the importance of reading for success.
Barks and Books
Tuesday, February 8, 3:30 p.m.
Be a special reading buddy to a real dog! Elementary children can read a book to a gentle dog. The program is made possible by the volunteers from the Pasadena Humane Society.
Children?’s/Teen Writing Contest
Join us in the Children?’s/Teen Writing Contest to answer the question ?“Here is what I would do if I were the President of the United States?”. Panel judges will award prizes by age range. The contest deadline is Sunday, February 20, 2005.

Book Chit Chat
Wednesday, February 2, 2005 6:30 p.m.
The Book Chit Chat is a monthly book discussion group for adults. Those interested are invited to meet and share their insights and opinions about the book selection for the current month. In the month of February, the group will discuss Sue Monk Kidd?’s The Secret Life of Bees, a story of a motherless girl?’s quest for her family?’s past. Light refreshments will be served.

Video Viewing ?– Remember the Titans

Based on actual events that took place in 1971, a white southern high school is integrated with black students from a nearby school. The black football coach is chosen to be the head coach of the integrated team, leaving the previous white head coach with feelings of animosity. The daughter of Assistant Coach Paul ?“Doc?” Hines, Paula Hines Lonergan, will be visiting the Hastings Branch on February 16 to discuss her writing and publishing her book about the movie and her father?’s life. Popcorn will be served.

Join Paula Hines Lonergan as she shares advice for all who have a dream of being a writer and having your works publishes. Author of Titan of a Man, based on the movie ?“Remember the Titans?” and her father?’s life, Paula shares real life writing and publishing experience.
A Visit with a World War II Bombardier
Wednesday, February 23, 4:00 p.m.
Join Charles ?“Norm?” Stevens as he shares his experience as a 19 year-old riding in the nose of a heavy bomber warplane. Listen to his story of air missions over enemy territory as he discusses his book An Innocent at Polebrook: A memoir of an Eighth Air Force Bombardier. Light refreshments will be served.
Look Forward to March ?– It?’s Pasadena Uncovered Month at the Hastings Branch Library
