TRAFFIC & PARKING

Sep 09, 2002

UP's main issues are with DU, as it continues to try to get DU people to pay to park in DU lots, not
on UP streets -- more and more of which have had to resort to limited hours/resident permits. UP has reps on DU committees
on traffic, parking and other UP concerns.
The mitigation plan developed with DU for UP (which we all voted to support) has just been withdrawn from Public Works'
budget by Councilman Charlie Brown -- no City funds are available to pay for this plan unless a special grant is obtained. The
plan includes mitigation for problems projected in UP from the Performing Arts and Law School traffic.
DU has a new group to promote bikes, car-pools, etc. and will leaflet cars in UP when streets turn "limited" advising where
campus parking is available. Ahem.
Other issues UP is working on relate to T-REX traffic, and projected light rail station traffic on Buchtel. By the way, note the
re-planted Xeriscaped island at Buchtel and S. Univ. Blvd. The Parks Dept. undid the old "by mistake" --Eek-- so we
ascertained that this intersection won't be re-done till 2003 and asked for re-planting, which was duly done under the direction
of Parks' Susan Fry.
