3,000 Trees in One Day!
2004 Denver Digs Trees Tree Sale – Saturday, April 17th

The Park People’s annual Denver Digs Trees Tree Sale will take place on Saturday, April 17th at six distribution sites across Denver. The Denver Digs Trees program has been responsible for adding more than 24,000 public trees to Denver, with thousands more sold each spring to help raise funds for the non-profit group’s public tree effort. More than 300 volunteers make this effort possible.

- From 9:30 a.m. to noon, more than 30 varieties of deciduous trees will be on sale at six sites around Denver:

Congress Park (9th & Josephine)
Washington Park (Exposition & S. Franklin Street) Hentzell Park (Yale & Havana) Ruby Hill Park (Jewell & Osage) Sloan's Lake Park (26th & Wolff) City of Denver Nursery (Smith Road & Havana)

The trees species available have been selected based on their suitability for Denver's dry climate. All of the tree varieties offered will have low or moderate water requirements after becoming established.
Swamp White Oak, Honeylocust, White Ash, Japanese Tree Lilac, Newport Plum and Spring Snow Crabapple are among the varieties that will be available. Bare root trees will be priced at $45 per tree, while balled-and-burlapped varieties will be $65 (includes sales tax). All trees will be 1-1.25 inch in diameter.

Studies have shown that trees increase property values, diminish air pollution, help save energy and even lead to lower crime rates. The objective of the Denver Digs Trees program is to enhance the city’s tree canopy, and promote neighborhood volunteerism.

This year’s Denver Digs Trees program is made possible by the support of Denver Parks & Recreation Department, Denver Water, The Home Depot Foundation, Colorado Garden Show, Xcel Energy Foundation, Boeing, Colorado State Bank & Trust, and Wild Oats Marketplaces.
