Starting in the first quarter of 2004, the T-REX project will begin construction on the Hampden Avenue Bridge over I-25. These improvements include the demolition and reconstruction of the current bridge.
Motorists who use Hampden Avenue will be pleased to know that that, by doing the work in phases, the bridge will remain OPEN during construction. During the first phase, traffic will be shifted to the north side of the bridge with two through lanes maintained in each direction – plus turn lanes – for a total of six lanes across the bridge. This traffic shift currently is scheduled to happen on the night of Jan. 8, 2004. The southern portion of the bridge will be demolished overnight Jan. 18, 19, and 20 and reconstructed throughout 2004. During the second phase in 2005, traffic will be moved onto the new south portion of the bridge so that demolition and reconstruction of the north side can be completed. The new structure will be several feet higher than the old structure, so between phases there will be some short-term closures to pave connections so that traffic can get “over the hump.”
The Quincy Avenue Bridge over I-25 is scheduled to open prior to the lane shifts on Hampden. This will help maintain motorist mobility across I-25 in this area.

Starting in the first quarter of 2004, the T-REX Project will begin construction on the Colorado Boulevard Bridge over I-25. Bridge improvements include the demolition and reconstruction of the current bridge in phases, as well as roadway and drainage improvements from South Buchtel Boulevard to Mexico Avenue.
Motorists who use Colorado Boulevard will be pleased to know that, by doing the work in phases, the bridge will remain OPEN during construction. During the first phase, traffic will be shifted to the west side of the bridge, with three through lanes maintained in each direction. This traffic shift is scheduled for the night of Jan. 4, 2004. The east portion of the bridge then will be demolished overnight Jan. 11, 12 and 13 and reconstructed throughout 2004. During the second phase in 2005, traffic will be moved onto the new east portion of the bridge so that demolition and reconstruction of the west side can be completed. The new structure will be approximately two feet higher than the old structure, so between phases there will be some short-term closures to pave connections so that traffic can get “over the hump.”
