There have been two reports in the last month of home robberies. It appears that in both cases a truck pulled up to the front of the house. In the first case computers, TVs and the like were stolen, with the window to the front room broken. In another case, a neighbor reported that the home was "cleared out." These reports have come from neighbors and have not been directly confirmed with the Police. Please be alert for your own home and the homes of any neighbors and call the Police if there is anything suspicious.
A very sad event has provided a strong reminder to all of us that we must SLOW DOWN and drive the speed limit or less in our neighborhood.
Joseph Koloskus, age 5, was struck by a passing car north of the intersection of Wesley and Madison and died on January 17th, 2002. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies are with his family.
Here follows the Denver Post article concerning the accident.
Thursday, January 17, 2002 - A
5-year-old boy was struck and killed
Wednesday afternoon when he
skateboarded into the path of a car
on a residential street in south
Denver.
The youngster, Joseph Koloskus,
who lived about three blocks from
the scene of the accident, was
playing at a friend's house in the
2300 block of South Madison Street,
just north of East Wesley Avenue,
said Sgt. Cliff Carney of the Denver
police.
The boys were playing in the house
under adult supervision and
suddenly ran outside the home,
which is on the east side of the
street. One boy was chasing the
other, and the young victim wound
up on a skateboard, said Carney.
"He skated out from between two
parked cars," Carney said.
The car, driven by a 65-year-old
woman, was traveling south on
Madison at 25 to 30 mph when the
youngster suddenly rolled into the
path of the vehicle, he said.
"There didn't appear to be anything
reckless or careless," said Carney,
and neither alcohol nor drugs were
a factor.
The woman stopped at the scene of
the accident, which happed about
2:30 p.m.
The boy was taken to Children's
Hospital, where he was pronounced
dead at 3:18 p.m.
"It's a very unfortunate accident,"
Carney said. "It's very tragic for
everybody concerned."
Carney said the results of the police
investigation will be submitted to
the district attorney's office for any
decision about charges.
