Potential Emergency Men's Homeless Shelter in Banker's Hill

City Council Considers Shelter on Tuesday, November 25, 2003

The City Council, at Councilmember Zucchet's request, will consider the feasibility of allowing the use of the Harborview Medical Center site -- the planned home of the San Diego Rescue Mission -- to house the Mission's homeless men's program on an Emergency Basis.

That consideration will come on Tuesday, November 25, 2003, at the Council session beginning at 10:00 a.m.

The Rescue Mission's mens program must close in East Village at the end of November. A court case challenging the Rescue Mission's move and its Conditional Use Permit is preventing the permanent move into the Rescue Mission facilities.

It is understood that this program for homeless men would operate at the Harborview site without the "street services" programs like the breakfast programs that had been planned for the permanent Rescue Mission location.

Please contact Margaret Radnick with Councilmember Zucchet at MRadnick@sandiego.gov or 619/236-6622
with questions or comments. Also please consider attending the Council on
