As reported in the Columbus Dispatch today.

The following people have registered as candidates for the four seats on the Council in this November's election:

Ron Hays*
Marzia Helton*
Ann Marks

* incumbent

Valleyview will have one issue on the ballot. A 5.5 mill operating levy. This replaces a current 7.0 mill operating levy that is being collected at the effective rate of 6.2 mills. The Village Council is asking the residents to approve the operating levy a year early and this will lower thier taxes.

For more information you can contact a council member, leave a question here, or contact the County Auditor's website or the Franklin County Board of Elections.

No Levy On The Ballot

The proposed levy passed by the Village Council will not be on the November ballot. The County Prosector representing the Board of Elections did not approve the language of the levy. It was the same language used from previous levy requests that were accepted so it was a little confusing as to why it was not approved.

The current operating levy will remain in place and is set to expire after 2006.

Because of the recent raise in property values by the County it is possible that had the levy been placed on the ballot that residents' tax bills would have increased because of the higher values even though the millage rate was being lowered.

I am hoping that the Village Council will look at the possibility of placing a levy on the primary election ballot early next year with a millage rate that would lower the tax burden to the residents.

If you have any questions about the tax levy please contact a member of council, the mayor or fiscal officer. You may email me or post a reply here.

Open Seat On Council In 2006

There will be an open seat on Council after the elections and with the terms ending December 31st, 2005.

With only three people running for the four seats there will be a seat vacate that could be filled by the Village Council. If the Council fails to appoint someone to the seat then the Mayor has the obligation to appoint someone to the seat.

If you are interested in being considered for the seat on Council please contact a member of Council or the Mayor. The seat would be filled hopefully with the beginning of the year for the January Council Meeting.
