Emergency Tollbooth Funding Issue

Funding of the rehabilitated Tollbooth will be considered at the County Commission meeting June 4, 2002. The budget for the Tollbooth is for $1,592,000 and the award that is going to be recommended to the Commissioners is for $2,089,106, which is 33% or $497,106 over budget. Commissioner Barbara Carey-Shuler's numbers and email are: (305) 375-5393 (T); (305) 372-6104 (F); District5@miami-dade.gov; Commissioner Bruno Barreiro's numbers are (305) 375-5924 (T); (305) 375-5904 (F); District3@miami-dade.gov. Call, write, email and ask for their assistance in getting this project done. We will try to put the time the item will come up on our website (http://www.neighborhoodlink.com/miami/venetiancauseway).

Parrot Jungle

The developers of Parrot Jungle have met with us and reiterated their desire to be good neighbors. We have spent thousands of dollars paying our sound expert to work with their sound expert on a proposal. However, Parrot Jungle developers will not assure us that we will see their plans for amplified sound systems before they go out to bid nor that their sound consultant will approve them. We have asked the City of Miami to fund a monitoring system at Parrot Jungle (a request in which Parrot Jungle did not join us). No response yet.

Causeway Streetscape Project

Progress has been made. This project executes the plans developed for the Causeway by Urban Resource Group. We have a spreadsheet that shows we are about $1.2 million short on a $7.8 million project for 2006. We are hoping that the City of Miami will contribute from capital improvement bonds.

Undergrounding of Causeway Utility Lines

Old estimates put the cost at over $14 million dollars to underground the utility lines along the Causeway. Neither City nor the County will fund this. It is up to the residents if it is going to be done. We are looking at a Special Taxing District. This would require a massive effort of lots of people. Do you think it is a worthwhile project? Would you help? It would need to be done in concert with Streetscape Project in 2006.

We have a website on the Internet.
We will post neighborhood news the first of each month. You can view at http://www.neighborhoodlink.com/miami/venetiancauseway. Want news to be posted? Send to Barbara K. Bisno at Bbisno@aol.com. Would you be willing to write a neighborhood history for our Website?
