Issues about the board and lack of communication

Posted in: Vermilion

I have heard some disturbing news and I would like to open these issues up for discussion. I hope that we are not the only home in this subdivision that finds these issues disturbing. One, I have heard through the grapevine that the Vermilion "board" has been meeting once a month. I have not received any "board" meeting minutes for any of these, therefore, I have no idea what decisions are being made on my behalf without my opinion which I feel I have a right to.  Two, there are decisions being made that I believe are "subdivision" decisions, not "board" decisions. One of those are the yard of the month. That was voted in by the subdivision and if it is no longer wanted, it should be up to the subdivision to take it away, not the "board", which in my opinion has worked as we (the subdivision) had planned over the last few years. Also, there are no flowers up front - why? Was that another "board" decision or is there an issue up there that needs to be addressed? Two, I also heard that the "board" wants to raise our dues, why? We obviously have plenty of money in the pot right now since I haven't seen any money being spent in our subdivision, nor have I received any input about our treasury about where and what the subdivision funds are being spent, or what upgrades/improvements we are trying to save up for. Three, we have not had a subdivision meeting since January. When is the next meeting scheduled and why have we not been having them quarterly. The bonuses to having these meetings quarterly is to have the community getting together on a regular basis and voicing our concerns or praises. That is what makes a strong community - open communication! As I can see right now, we do not have any of that, except for the few neighbors who do talk. And that is mostly complaining about "what is going on in our subdivision - because no one is informed.......

Please go out on our homepage and read the minutes from the last Association Meeting.

When we have our board meetings our listed in those minutes as well as we discussed increase the dues at our last association meeting.  No decision was made on this issue. As we said at the last association meeting anyone is welcome to come to the board meeting just email one of us if you are interested as the date change do to conflict and we will glad to let you know where and when.  The door is always open.

As far as yard of the month that will be brought up also but I really don't see where it has help so far we still  have the same problem that we had before if started and hasn't change.  The same people take care of their yard as before and does the discount really make that much of a difference.   Is that the only thing that make people keep their yard up.???  If you don't do it now the  $25 is going to change you and make you do it.

I believe as far as the flowers go up front my fault I didn't listed it in the minutes but I will correct the minutes.  We discussed at our meeting not planting them because of the drought and not be able to water them.

The next homeowners is set for August I believe I will check the date with Dean and post it on the web page.  It will be held in the common area this time due to  the library being close.  Hopefully, this will get more people to attend.

If you have any questions, please feel free to email me or any member of the board.

I believe Debbie S. was asking for the minutes of the board meeting not the association meeting.

Speaking as a resident, While I do not have a problem with the board meeting to discuss upcoming meetings or the execution of business already approved during an association meeting, I think minutes of those meetings should be posted publically, in the interest of complete disclosure.

Again speaking on my own, I disagree with the decision to discontinue Yard of the Month without a vote of the association. I think the board has the need & right to act on budgetary details approved by the association, however, changes in policy or programs seems to be outside the juridiction of the board. The association is more or less a perfect democracy not a business or a representative republic.

The Bylaws mandate that any resident can call for an Association meeting & it has to occur within 30 days. 30 days is too soon for me but I would like to call for an association meeting to be held between July 26 & August 2. Furthermore, I would like the agenda to include a vote to amend the covenent & bylaws to require regular meetings, clearly defined. I would propose no less than 2 meetings, preferrably 4, per year. I think we should agree but not codify suggested dates such as "the 2nd Monday of each quarter."

I absolutely want to know when and where the board meetings are being held so that I may attend.
