The Aurora Police staffing number was at 677 officers proposed in the 2016 budget. The City Council, in unanimous support, added an additional 5 officers for a total of 682 officers in 2016.
· AFR (Aurora Fire Rescue) hosted the 2nd Annual Phoenix Lifesaving Awards earlier in November. The ceremony celebrated 32 individuals who were not breathing and without a heartbeat and by interventions of the AFR crews were revived and left the hospital neurologically intact. We have so much to be grateful for in Aurora and our Fire Department is at the top of the list.
· The Forestry Division continues to prune city trees in our area, 17th to 25th and Havana to the Del Mar Parkway.
· You have probably noticed continuing construction activities to the southwest of the AMC. Aurora Water has begun a project that will improve storm water drainage between the new Light Rail Station and City Center Park. This project also includes the construction of a pedestrian underpass. The work will take approximately six month to complete and will set the state for the future construction of a pedestrian trail that will run between the Metro Center station and the park.
· The Colfax Corridor Connections Project is moving forward with the project team currently preparing the environmental document with a categorical exclusion approach. The draft document should be complete by the end of the year with the final document completed early next year.
· The RTD received a $5 million dollar Ladders of Opportunity grant from the Federal Transit Administration. This grant will be used to improve bus services on Colfax Avenue between Broadway and Fitzsimons Parkway-Potomac Street. A portion of the grant will be used to make improvements for 15L stops in Aurora, potential bus bulb-outs and relocation of bus stops in selected locations. Look for design and implementation of these improvements will occur in 2016.
