posting boxes

Paul I know of no one who reads the post boxes the only reason it's posted there is its required.I spoke to someone the other day and ask if they ever stopped and read the postings and that person said no but have seen kids tear them down so much for informing residents. Why suddenly is Mr. Johnson being courteous we obviously can not do any thing to change matters so why did he have to stir the pot so to speak.

Communication

Communication is difficult when the only method we have is to place items in the posting boxes.

For items planned well in advance we try and use other methods such as the Village newsletter and the Westside Messenger, but for something that comes up quickly the only recourse we have is to use the posting boxes. We are working to get a website up and running and if people would submit email addresses we can send out notices that way as well.

That does not address those without access to email, but it is a start. The Council has been looking at ways to better communicate to the residents what is going on. Residents need to use the posting boxes if they want to stay informed because we do not have a better system in place right now. We are also working on trying to protect the information in the posting boxes to prevent people and weather from removing the information. It is difficult, but we are trying. There are five posting boxes throughout the Village and the one that seems to be protected best is the one at Village Hall. Residents can always check another posting box. I am always for more and better communication. The difficulty lies in when to spend Village resources to send out a letter or newsletter. It can get cost prohibited to send out notices in the mail every time something needs shared with residents.

As to Mr. Johnson sending out the letters, I believe that is something that the Committee asked to be done. I was not there so I do not know if he offered to do it or was asked to do it. That would be a question for a member of the Property and Planning Committee.

I do not believe that it is obvious that nothing can change matters. What is it you believe is going to be discussed? My understanding is that Mr. Johnson is asking for a variance as to how close to the property line he can build. I believe what he is asking for is that he be able to build in a similar place as the current homes have been built. Under the current rules many of the homes that have been built on Eldon would not meet the current standards. That is my basic understanding of the matter and I will have to attend the meetings as any other resident to see what is being discussed. I suggest contacting Marzia Helton, Jack Morgan or John Shaw who are members of the committee who could better address the matter.

I can understand your frustration, but I would ask what is it exactly that you would like to see the Village do to prevent a property owner from improving his property? While other homes are abandoned or ignored this property owner wants to improve the property he owns. There is nothing preventing the owners of the other homes from improving thier properties or maintaining them. The Village is taking action to address those property owners that have let their property fall in to disrepair.

A property owner in Valleyview can do with his property what he wants as long as it conforms to the legal requirements in the building and zoning codes. That is available to any property owner and the Village Council and Mayor do not have the right to stop someone from improving their property because other owners are not taking action on their own property.

Please feel free to contact me directly if you would like to discuss it more. I encourage everyone to attend the Committee Meetings and play an active part in the discussion.

said he will give an opportunity for all questions and comments regarding the project my question is WHY have a meeting when it will not change anything.Just build the darn thing and quit going on and on about it.
Pick and Choose

It has always been, let as few people know as possible.

If it is to he held at the Village Hall, everyone should be told.
