  • Respect-O-Meter: Valued Neighbor
A few weeks ago, some woman was taking photos of my back/side yard. I went outside and asked her what she was doing and she said she liked my goats and that they were on a ramp in my yard, she thought that was neat. I asked her if she was with some group or something and she told me that she was out doing some work for some insurance group and that she just happened to see my goats and wanted to take their picture. But then as she was leaving I saw her snap another quick photo of another part of my back/side yard, where there were no goats. I called my insurance company and they said they didn't send anyone out and then I called the city and they said they didn't send anyone out. I'm not happy that some stranger was taking pictures of my yard. My neighbor suggested that maybe it was the neighborhood association. So, if it was someone from here, I hope you will identify yourself truly next time you do such a thing. Thanks.

Only for Yard of the Month

This would not be something that a person from WMNA would be doing without identifying themselves. I take that you are not a member of WMNA, Come to a neighborhood meeting sometime. We are having our WMNA picnic May 21st at the Oakland Lake Park at 6:45 PM. Our meetings are held the third Monday of each month excluding July and December.
People taking pictures?

Hmmmm, I can tell you that it was not someone in an official capacity from the Neighborhood Association and there is a really logical reason I'm sure of that.

The only reason I could think of is to turn you into code compliance. Code compliance doesn't encourage us to take pictures of perceived code violations because they can't use them unless the individual was willing to swear out a complaint. So, if someone was doing that and knew they would be identified anyway, they might as well give you their name.

We have a person in the neighborhood who heads up code questions but when she goes out she goes out with a code officer. She knows about the picture rule.

I'm pretty sure keeping goats in the city limits is restricted so you might want to check with city code, just so you will be informed.

Some of the things our neighborhood is targeting is part of the city code's top 10 most unwanted list, things like junk cars, cars parked on the lawn, trash, high weeds or grass, couches on the porch or lawn, stuff I think looks bad and can lower property values.

There are all kinds of violations that never get reported because they are not a nuisance. There is a lady near me who rescues small dogs. She has more than the limit but they come and go as homes are found, they don?’t cause problems and she is a great neighbor. I bet you are too.

The only other thing is that the insurance person was in the neighborhood for some other house. A change in homeowners insurance, a homeowner claim, things like that, I would think would be valid reasons.

I think it would make me uncomfortable too.
