PUBLIC SAFETY NOTICE

Discharging of firearms (GUNS)

If you are considering celebrating the arrival of the New Year or the FOURTH of JULY by firing your gun, keep in mind that your actions will have serious consequences. First and foremost, remember that every bullet you fire has the potential of killing or injuring an innocent man, woman or child. If you kill someone because of your reckless use of a firearm, you will be prosecuted for murder. If you injure another person by firing your weapon, you will be prosecuted for aggravated assault. In either case, you will be sentenced to prison upon conviction.

Even if you are lucky enough to have your bullets fall harmlessly to the ground, you still face prosecution for a number of crimes, including:

****discharging a weapon in the City limits
****disorderly conduct
****endangerment

The punishment for these criminal offenses includes six (6) months in jail, $2,500.00 in fines, three (3) years probation, and forfeiture of the weapon.

Tucson's law enforcement officers and prosecutors will use every means of preventing, prosecuting and punishing the irresponsible use of firearms. Please celebrate these holidays lawfully and responsibly.
