March 2006

Annual meeting was held on March 6, 2006. We had a record attendance! The board would like to Thank, all those who took time out to attend. We had officer Greg Grant come and talk to us, and thus renewed our neighborhood watch status for another year. Jim Hill from the Greater Hood Road Community Association came and informed us of the proposed 157 homes to be built along Losco. We all know how this will impact our traffic (already bad) on Losco. There will be a meeting Next March 16 at Mandarin Middle School at 6:30 ?– 8:00. Mr. Hill encouraged everyone to go and help stop these developments. This will make more of an impact then Guardian Lutheran Church so please attend. We went over the budget and talked about upcoming projects.

NEIGHBORHOOD WORK DAY
We will have a neighborhood workday on April 8, 2006 at the pool area. We have to fill the planters with dirt and plant the impatient. This is a big job and the more hands we have the quicker it can be accomplished. Bring your shovels, wheelbarrows, and your neighbor. We will meet at the pool area at 9:00 a.m.

ITEMS OF FREQUENT COMPLIANTS
Just wanted to take this time to highlight a couple of issues that have been brought the boards attention AGAIN.
1. Parking on the street. It is inconsiderate and unsafe. Children have been known to dart out into the travel lane and not be seen as they came from in front of a parked car. We all know the kids do not think about safety issues so this is a job for YOU. Also when there is parking on the street, a lot of times it occurs on both sides of the street and getting to your own home then becomes a ride through an obstacle course. An emergency vehicle CAN NOT maneuver through some areas and the cars being parked there just might stand in the way of the needed immediate care. PLEASE THINK OF YOUR NEIGHBORS!
2. Trashcans are being left out after garbage day. The wind blows them, and the also are not an appealing sight. They HAVE to be put back up by your house (hopefully out of sight.)
3. The speed limit along the Thoreau Way horseshoe is 20 mph. Please adhere to it. We would hate to have an accident involving a child being hurt. This should need NO FURTHER EXPLANATION.
4. Please help clean up the neighborhood. We have seen so much trash at the front entrance. Don?’t think, ?“Someone else will pick that up.?” You be that someone. This is YOUR neighborhood and it is a responsibility we all maintain to keep it clean.
5. Dogs ?– It has been brought to the attention of the board about dogs that Bark for many hours, sometimes all day and it starts EARLY. This is against city ordinance and there is a fee of $100.00 for the first offense. Please be considerate of your neighbors, we all keep very different hours and a dog barking for many hours a day is VERY disruptive.
6. Some of the yards in the neighborhood are in desperate need of attention. Spring is the time for sprucing up your house exterior. The values of our homes are rising and in order to keep that happening WE ALL have to think about the appearance of the outside of our house. If any of us had to put our house on the market we would want top dollar, sometimes that is as easy as putting down some sod and/or plugs, pressure washing the exterior, planting some colorful flowers. All of these would enhance your property as well as the neighborhood overall.
7. We now have a form for the approval of removing trees. Once you call and get approval, we will bring you a brightly colored form, signed by the board stating you have board approval for the removal of the trees that are designated on the form. This will need to be posted outside on your property the day of the removal. This will help inform your neighbors that you went through the proper channel. We also have a sign to post at both entrances stating that this is a ?“tree protected community, written approval required prior to cutting?”.

NEIGHBORHOOD GARAGE SALE
The annual neighborhood garage sale is set for April 15th. We put the signs out at the front entrance signs and in the past we have had a good turnout. Take advantage of this, the more families that participate the more people we draw in.

BOARD MEMBERS
We will be losing one of our board members. Bluzette Carline is moving out of the neighborhood. We will miss them. Bluzette was instrumental in getting the new signs, and MANY other countless things. THANK YOU BLUZETTE!

With that said, we could use some more fresh ideas and enthusiasm on the board. The day to day running of the neighborhood requires many hands. At this time we could use 2 or 3 people to step up. If we had more people, things could be spread around and the time requirements would not fall heavy on just a few. PLEASE HELP US!!!!
