There are a number of feral cats in the neighborhood. I have trapped 5 kittens and they have been adopted. I have also trapped the Mama cat and she has been spayed plus one other female cat that lives and usually stays in my yard. Her name is Toni and is a brown, white, black tabby. Toni is socialized but lives outside. The Mama cat (she is a calico) roams between Mercer & WWP, and I have been feeding for 3 years. Also, there are a couple of others that come by and I feed them when I see them and I'm sure they are male. I do not leave food out but they know if they hang out I will usually see & feed them!!
When the feral cats are spayed or neutered the vet will tip one ear that shows they have been spayed or neutered. I work w/ No More Homeless Pets, they provide a cage & will spay or neuter feral cats for $15. After trapping you take them to NMHP for surgery and pick up the next day. Feral cats, if older are best returned to where they have been trapped because they have not been socialized. I socialized the 5 kittens that I trapped and they were quickly adopted through Pet Finder.com. I would love to trap the two males but this is difficult w/ Toni and Mama cat in my yard because you put food in the trap to lure them. I would hope others in the neighborhood would do the same to maybe eliminate the number of feral/roaming cats before it become a major problem.
