Close your eyes and take a tour of your home…under the kitchen sink, the shelves in the garage and the basement. Do you see old paint, drain opener, fingernail polish, batteries, motor oil, pesticides and fertilizers? These products are all considered hazardous because the chemicals they contain pose a threat to human health or the environment. There is a way to dispose of them safely.
Missouri residents can take their household hazardous waste (HHW) to either of the following collection centers.
Residents who live in communities that are members of the regional HHW program can use these services for free. Residents form nonmember communities must pay a fee.

Kansas residents can take their household hazardous waste to their county’s facility:
These facilities safely dispose of all the waste they receive. Most of it is recycled or used for energy recovery.
To make your home safe, choose safe alternatives to hazardous chemicals. Many stores now carry earth-friendly cleaners, paints, fertilizers, etc. You can also make your own from common household products such as vinegar and baking soda.
