Citizens Advisory Committee Establishes Bond Improvement Project

Patsy Goodman attended the October 5th meeting of the CAC and reported back to the WPENA Steering Committee. About a dozen citizens from the neighborhood related their concerns about the right-of-way conflicts for cars, bicycles and pedestrians at the Downing/Bayaud/Marion intersection. Many drivers are confused by the unusual street alignment and have line of sight problems. Pedestrians and bicyclists are concerned about speeding drivers and turning vehicles. Discussion then turned to potential
solutions and guidelines for change, including preserving the bus stop gazebo, maintaining neighborhood access and "feel", preserving parkway aesthetics, and focusing on safety rather than increasing traffic capacity. The project provides for a bicycle ramp from Cherry Creek connecting to a proposed multi-use trail on the east side of Downing to Bayaud, as well as safety improvements at the intersection of Downing, Bayaud, and Marion.
